Coast to Coast: Solo Hiking Across the Country - Day 5 (4K)

Day 5 of solo hiking the Coast to Coast, I left the Lake View Country House and went across the road to have my breakfast at The Good Sport, a vegetarian hash brown stack. Words can't begin to describe how amazing it felt to be eating such delicious food as I was sitting out in my favourite place in the world, in the warm sun, early morning, planning my hike ahead.

The walk out of Grasmere was bittersweet as I just... didn't want to leave. I stopped to grab some gingerbread on the way out, obviously.

The heat grew more intense as I began my incline up towards Grizedale Tarn and what a slog that was. The steep path led me past a multitude of sheep, and eventually up to the tarn where I sat and ate my gingerbread as I did some sketching of the valley beyond.

The descent down into Patterdale was totally delightful; prancing lambs, countless waterfalls and mini wooden bridges, enchanting woodlands as I neared closer to my destination: Patterdale YHA.

I camped there for the night, pitched up by the river, and I ate some food at the nearby Old water View Riverside Bar, before retiring back to my tent where I battled heavy bouts of homesickness, and ended up crying myself to sleep.

I made myself feel worse by mentally berating myself for feeling like this in such an idyllic location, missing home and loved ones when I was out in a place so stunning, most would only dream of going to.

I ended up falling asleep eventually, lulled by the sounds of the river and surrounding wildlife.
