Super Detail Guide on What Document to Prepare before driving across the border to Hat Yai. 合艾自驾游！

We are driving up from Penang across the Malaysia-Thailand border to Hat Yai. There are several documents to be prepared before we can drive across the border, and we would like to share this information with you in case you want it to.

The following are the basic documents that we carry with us from home:
1. Passport
2. License
3. Car card also known as Vehicle Registration card (if you are the car owner)
*However if you are driving your parents or your friend's car, you need to get their approval. You need them to write you a letter stating their agreement to lend their car to you (must include the name car owner's name, IC number, car plate number, car color, and car model, your name, IC number).
* This letter needs to be signed in front of the Commission of Oaths and stamped to be considered authorized and verified. Without this process, it is considered illegal to drive across the border.

There are other documentation that we need to get it prepared for us before we reach the border, such as
1. Thailand Car insurance
2. TM2 and TM3 form 2 copies
     * TM2 and TM3 forms are printed on the same piece of paper, one on the front page and the other on the back.

3. TM6 arrival card or White card.
* Don't worry about how to prepare these documents. When you are purchasing your Thailand Car insurance, they will help you to get these completed too. (Ask them if they included this service or not if you want to be sure).

There are plenty of companies selling insurance in Changlun and you may choose another if you have a better choice. We chose this stop because they have a toilet and money changer. So we can get ourselves prepared before crossing the border.
