ROUTE VISUAL | Transdev Coastliner 843: Leeds - Scarborough

Hello!

Having recently gotten my hands on a GoPro Hero11, camera, I was quite eager to give it a test. For this first route visual video of hopefully many more to come, we take a front row seat onboard a very well-built B5TL, decked out with extra comfy coach-spec seats, on the 843 (branded the Coastliner by Transdev). Stretching from Leeds to Scarborough more than 50 miles away, the journey takes a whopping 3 hours in total; properly putting the GoPro through its paces and leaving me absolutely knackered by the time we finally pull up at Scarborough’s Alpamare Waterpark.

I’ve heard overheating can be a big problem with these cameras - and unfortunately this test seems to confirm just that. Every half hour or so the camera would shut itself off as it struggles to keep itself at a safe operating temperature, hence the incomplete footage and the many cuts you will find throughout this video. The sun beating down on the camera later on in the video didn’t help matters much either. However, the amazing stabilisation and picture quality (for a camera this size) more than makes up for the constant overheating - which should be easily remedied with the addition of heatsinks anyway. Hopefully.

The weather wasn’t the best in Leeds as we departed the bus station, but the dark clouds eventually gave way to sunshine as we neared Scarborough - and as the rain cleared over the stunning Yorkshire countryside, it’s no wonder the 843 has been named the UK’s most scenic bus route.
