In this special video we’ve combined two chapters of Dover’s hidden history:

1️⃣ The first half shows when we first discovered tunnelling in progress beneath the Dover Citadel – part of the vast Western Heights defences dating back to the Napoleonic Wars.

2️⃣ The second half documents our return, after the tunnel had been fully completed, leading into the long-sealed casemates deep inside the Citadel.

These defences have been closed since the late 1960s, when the site was used by HMP Dover (later Dover Immigration Removal Centre). For decades, the casemates were completely cut off – until a small group of determined urban explorers spent five years carefully digging their way through.

We didn’t dig this tunnel. That credit belongs to the explorers who revealed it inch by inch.
