Florian Schulz (a member of the iLCP) is a professional nature and wildlife photographer based in southern Germany, who spends eight to ten months a year photographing in the field. He focuses his photography on long term conservation photography projects. Florianâ s work has been published in magazines, books and calendars. His work is also featured in multimedia slideshows. His photographs have won numerous awards in leading international photography competitions like the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Nature's Best, Banff Mountain Photography Competition and GDT European Nature Photographer of the Year.

His book Yellowstone to Yukon: Freedom to Roam published by the Mountaineers Books will be released in October 2005. With Yellowstone the, National Park Idea was born in 1872. It was a vision that spread around the world. Boundaries were drawn around areas with splendid scenery and abundance of wildlife. Society hoped that they would remain unchanged forever. Yet, scientists realized that biodiversity loss was occurring even in protected parks. Why? Isolation among small natural areas likely contributed to greater loss of species needing larger ranges to roam. Thus, conservation of small tracts of land did not suffice to protect the natural habitat of some species, so a new way of looking at habitat conservation was born, namely the need to connect preserves through corridors.

Yellowstone to Yukon (Y2Y) is about the importance of these corridors to some species and the need to protect intact ecosystems. Just like the creation of the first National Park, Y2Y is a new but absolutely essential vision to preserve the vitality of the incredible mountain ecosystem in this region.
