Описание к видео How to Spot an Aneurysm Before It Bursts—Silent Signs That Save Lives

Aneurysms are deadly and often silent
About 80–90 percent of people with an aneurysm have no symptoms until rupture. A ruptured aneurysm is one of the deadliest emergencies—50 percent die from brain aneurysm rupture, 80 percent die from ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm before reaching hospital.

High blood pressure is the top risk factor
Hypertension is present in about 70 percent of people with aneurysm. It doubles to triples your risk of developing both brain and aortic aneurysms. The longer blood pressure stays high, the higher the risk.

Smoking is the single strongest lifestyle risk for aortic aneurysm
Almost 90 percent of people with an abdominal aortic aneurysm are current or former smokers. Smoking raises risk fivefold, and even quitting only halves (does not erase) the risk.

Family history is critical
Having a first-degree relative with aneurysm doubles or triples your risk (brain or abdominal). This is especially true for brain aneurysms, where genetics play a strong role.

Atherosclerosis is involved in 80 percent of cases
Plaque buildup in arteries is found in about 80 percent of all aneurysm patients, making it a major contributor.

Male sex and age multiply risk
Men are four to five times more likely to get abdominal aortic aneurysms. Risk rises sharply after age 55 and especially after 65, but women’s risk increases faster after menopause.

Connective tissue disorders massively increase risk
Marfan syndrome or Ehlers-Danlos make aneurysm up to ten times more likely.

Brain aneurysm warning signs are rare but serious
In about 10 percent of cases, people have sudden, severe headache (“worst headache of life”) days to weeks before rupture. Most have no warning until it bursts.

Screening saves lives, especially for high-risk groups
Abdominal ultrasound detects 95 percent of aortic aneurysms more than

3 cm. Screening is recommended for men 65–75 who ever smoked, and men over 65 with family history.

Surgery or endovascular repair is lifesaving for large or symptomatic aneurysms
Early intervention in high-risk cases (large size, fast growth, symptoms) can lower death rate from 50 percent to about 30 percent after rupture for brain aneurysms, and is the only way to prevent fatal rupture in aortic aneurysm.
