In this video, we return to Black Star Canyon in Orange County, California to give YOU a full post-storm creek trail to waterfall guide, for anyone looking to take advantage of these rare seasonal conditions.

This is hands-down the best waterfall hike in OC, and when the timing is right, it’s absolutely epic.

Timing Is Everything ⏱️
For the best experience:
2–3 days after heavy rain is ideal

This avoids dangerously muddy conditions while still catching strong waterfall flow.
Too early = deep mud & slick terrain
Too late = waterfall fades fast

Trail Details & Preparation
Distance: ~6.8 miles round trip
Easy flat walking trail before dropping down into the canyon creek.
It is only ½ to ¾ mile of actual creek rock hopping and climbing boulders in areas .. it’s rocky and technical.
Plan for plenty of daylight.

What to Bring:
🥾Excellent hiking shoes (mandatory)with good rubber soles .
(Rocks and dirt get slippery and there are muddy areas ).
🔦Headlamp or flashlight if you are going in the afternoon just incase you are out there longer than you think and get stuck coming back in the dark . We almost did!
🥨💧Enough water & snacks
🧣Warm layers — canyon temps drop fast
