Bishop James D. Conley of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln delivered this message about the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of The Blessed Virgin Mary.

"God gave us (an) important gift -- the gift of Mary, our Blessed Mother," Bishop Conley said. "From the very first moment of her existence, Mary was preserved from the stain of original sin. She became the spotless vessel He used to bring into the world His Son, our salvation.

"The Immaculate Conception is another sign of God's love for us. From the moment of her existence, He prepared Mary to answer His call. Like Mary, God is calling us as well to bring Christ into the world. Our world desperately needs Christ, and God has chosen us to share Him with our family, our friends and everyone we meet."
