" New season has dawned, let us start planting; as trees have sprouted.
Trees have sprouted, village chiefs should not delay....." [song]

As monsoon approaches plantation of rice takes the centrestage of all activities in Phalee village _ located in Ukhrul District Manipur.
Like it is done in many parts of the world, seed beds are firstly prepared for the selected seeds of rice, then the seedlings are transplanted in the well weeded and ploughed fields.
Apart from using Cows and Buffaloes for ploughing most of the works are done manually with funfair and gait.
Community efforts and or working in groups is an old tradition in the village. This is done practically in order to hasten the process of cultivation for every household.
Helping one another is the key; as within the short span of monsoon begining usually from June till the first half of July all plantation work has to be completed.
Phalee which has 800 households produces___ tons of rice per annum. Among many of the varieties, black rice and basmati rice has been initiated to be the special product of the village.
Rice plantation by Jhuming method is negligible in the village. Wet and dry paddy fields are the mainstay for rice and the acclaimed pisiculture of the village.
As population increases, self sufficiency of the stable food has became a pressing issue for the village. Therefore, reclamation of traditional paddy fields, improvement of irrigation system, double cropping options and mechanization are some of the measures being considered seriously by the villagers.
Love live phalee culture.
God bless the farmers.
