When we read about the miracles performed by Jesus in the Bible, we often feel a rush of excitement. However, we may overlook the most crucial aspect of His ministry: His relationship with the Father. Jesus came to guide us in living as true Christians, and central to His life was the deep connection He had with God through prayer.

The Gospels give us remarkable insight into Jesus’ prayer life. For instance, in Luke 5:16, it says, "But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed." Despite having only three years of public ministry, He consistently prioritized time in prayer, often engaging in it before confronting significant challenges (Mark 1:35). He did not allow the demands of His ministry to distract Him from spending hours in intimate conversation with His Father.

We see in Matthew 14:23 that “after he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone.” This shows Jesus' habit of seeking solitude for prayer, demonstrating the importance of drawing near to God regularly. His prayers were not mere routines; they were heartfelt, unhurried conversations.

In contrast, how often do we approach prayer? Sometimes, we offer only quick memory verses or hurried pleas in the morning, then forget to engage with God throughout the day—only to rush through a few requests at night (1 Thessalonians 5:17 encourages us to "pray continually").

I believe many of us, myself included, struggle with dedicating enough time to prayer. This lack of emphasis on genuine conversation with God may be one of the biggest keys we are missing in our spiritual lives. Jesus showed us through His example that prayer is not a mere program to follow; it is an essential lifeline.

As recorded in Luke 6:12, “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” He spent significant time in fervent prayer, affirming that no matter how busy one might be, there is always time to seek the Lord.

So, we should ask ourselves: What is keeping us from prioritizing prayer in our schedules? What changes do we need to make to ensure that God is at the forefront of our lives? To fulfill the purpose He has for us, we need to elevate our relationship with Him and make prayer a priority.

Father, we come before You now and ask that You instill in us a genuine hunger and thirst for Your righteousness. May we begin to long for Your presence, craving intimacy with You in the same way we miss our loved ones—our spouses, our children, and others close to our hearts. Help us yearn to enter into Your presence, to pray, and to have meaningful conversations with You—not merely treating You like a vending machine, but seeking to truly know You and understand who You are.

Open our eyes to see the world through Your lens and to grasp Your heart for all people. Please ignite in us a deep desire for more of You, Father God. We dedicate this time to You, and we pray all of this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
