In esoteric astrology mars, shares rulership of the first ray. Pertaining to will-power and individually rules over the 6th ray , which is about devotion. So when in the chart mars ushers in these influences into the natal chart, and depending where it's sitting. We see the effects of its placement in the natal chart.

The eight house is ruled over by the deeply esoteric and mysterious sign of Scorpio. The eighth house deals with topics society might label as being Taboo. These topics can at first sight, be considered to be rather morbid. But when we take a deeper look, we notice just how important they are. And how without them, the natural process of our universe would not be able to operate.

In Scorpio we find the story of Hercules and his struggle with fighting the Hydra. In the story of his 12 labours, in which after constant struggle and strife. Hercules finally surrenders and instead of cutting the innumerable heads of the hydra off, in a never ending battle. He takes to his knee, and raises the Hydra into the light of the sun. Which remove the veil of illusion and reveal the true head of the Hydra, allowing for Hercules to cut off the Hydra's true head. And come out of this victorious, This is why this sign is called the Sign of the disciple. The lesson is through "harmony through conflict" the fourth ray. The disciple needs to learn how to surrender, and thus conquering their baser instincts and rising up finally as the adept, ready to take in the third initiation.


This is why Scorpio and the eighth house, are esoterically so important. And with Mars in this part of the chart, even more so.
