We were blessed to have local historian Dominique Lacorde spend his day with us exploring the WW1 battlefields around Romagne. His family has been in Romagne since 1636. During the Great War his grandmother’s village experienced occupation by the Germans. Jean-paul de Vries, owner of the museum Romagne 14-18, tells the story of an ivory button for the top of a walking-stick. The button was kept in a family safe that was robbed by the Germans during the war. Decades later Jean-paul found the piece of art near an old Roman fortress and it now resides in his museum.
