In this Video, i get to answer a series of questions relating to Archimedes' principle and Law of flotation. Below are the questions i get to answer;

1. The mass of a piece of Cork is 20 g. What fraction of the Cork is immersed when it floats in water, given the density of the Cork to be 0.25 g/cm3

2. A beaker weighs 0.4 N when empty and 1.4 N when filled with water. What does it weigh when filled with brine of density 1.2 g/cm3

3 .The density of a body is 5×103kg/m3 and it weighs 1.0 N in air. Calculate the apparent weight of the body when totally immersed in water.
Density of water 1000 kg/m3
Gravity 10 m/s2

4. A solid of mass 1.3 kg suspended by a string is completely in water. If the tension in the spring is 6.0 N. Calculate
1. The upthrust on the solid
2. The volume of the solid
3. Its density
(Gravity = 10 m/s2) density of water = 1000kgm-3)

5. A piece of metal, 3.6 kg is suspended from a spring balance. What is the reading of the balance (in N)?
1. With the metal in air
2. With the metal in water
3. With the metal in brine
4. What is the density of a liquid in which it gives a reading of 33.0 N?
(Density of brine 1200kg/m3; density of metal 9000 kg/m3)

6. A relative density bottle of mass 25.0 g has a capacity of 50.0 cm3. The bottle is completely filled with methylated spirit, and its mass is 65.0g. The bottle is emptied and some salt is then into the empty bottle and then weighed, the mass now is 50.0g . Methylated spirit is now added until the bottle is completely filled and the total mass now becomes 80.0 g. From the data given, calculate the density of the salt

7. A solid weighs 0.9 N in air and 0.2 N in a liquid of density 700 kg/m3 or 0.7 g/cm3. Calculate
A. The upthrust
B. Volume of the solid

8. A block of material of volume of 20.0 cm3 and density 2.5 g/cm3 is suspended from a spring balance with half of the volume of the block immersed in water. What is the reading of the spring balance??
Density of water = 1.0 g/cm3
