A tragic incident has come to light near the town of Makhu in Ferozepur. A family riding a motorcycle — husband, wife, and their two children — fell into the Sirhind Feeder Canal. While the husband and wife were rescued safely, their two children were swept away by the strong current and are currently missing.
The incident reportedly occurred near the village of Varpala, where the canal lacks proper railings. The motorcycle slipped and plunged into the water. Locals who arrived at the scene managed to save the parents with great difficulty. However, their 4-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter were carried away by the fast-flowing water, and rescue operations are ongoing to locate them.
The SDM of Zira has assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the lack of safety measures.
