The CARES Act allows for a penalty free IRA withdrawals in 2020 for those impacted by COVID-19. During normal times, taking an early withdrawal from your IRA is generally a bad idea. Not only will you owe taxes, but you’re also subject to the 10% penalty for withdrawals before age 59-1/2.

However, for many, this may be a unique opportunity to strategically move assets out of their IRA without penalty.
