The county government has embarked on an operation to impound stray animals in Meru town.
Tens of donkeys, goats and sheep found roaming in Makutano and Gakoromone markets were driven into the municipal yard where their owners will pay fines for them to be released.
Packs of marauding dogs have also been spotted scavenging for food at garbage heaps or dumpsites.
