"It''s palpable. Yesterday I was on at rush hour a Brooklyn-bound express train. It was packed, we were all sort of sandwiched in, and usually you have the cell-phone talkers, the texters, the newspaper people talking, laughing.. You could hear a pin drop on this really, really packed subway train. And it was almost like everybody was kind of saying their prayers to themselves under their breaths. It was super quiet and really just sort of solemn on the train. So can really feel it down here."

"I think about it every day. Not a day goes by when I don''t think about it. I just hope the country doesn''t suffer another attack like this again. This is a terrible thing and I hope we get this terrorism under control. Just keep fighting the good fight."

STORYLINE:
Security is tightening in the area around the World Trade Centre site in New York City, ahead of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on Sunday.
From additional patrol cars and boots on the ground to portable observation posts and barricades, the city''s police department is on high alert.
City officials say police tours have been extended, effectively increasing the strength of the patrol force.
The police are also prepared to respond to an increase in calls reporting suspicious packages, and have added more police vehicles with license-plate readers.
Undaunted by talk of a new security threat, New Yorkers are sensing the mood as the 10-year anniversary draws near.
Marijo Russell O''Grady, the Dean of Students at Pace University, said that the tension in New York is "palpable".
She was on a packed Brooklyn-bound express train at rush hour on Friday and said "you could hear a pin drop".
"It was almost like everybody was kind of saying their prayers to themselves under their breaths," O''Grady said. "It was super quiet and really just sort of solemn on the train."
Meanwhile, electrician Vincent Christian said he thinks about the 9/11 attacks every day.
"Not a day goes by when I don''t think about it," he said. "I just hope the country doesn''t suffer another attack like this again."
Like the police department, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey - which owns the World Trade Centre site - is also on high alert.
A spokesman for the port authority said there will be increased vehicle checks and increased bag checks at airports, bus and rail terminals.
