You can verify that this solution makes sense by checking the case m = l and applying the raising operator. You should get zero, since you've reached the maximum angular momentum already. (You can also do a similar check for the m = -l case)

Tbh as a mathy person I'm not entirely satisfied with the hermitian conjugate proof I showed you, but I'll just assume you're familiar enough with the properties of inner products to know that every step I performed was valid. An ideal proof in my mind would have only invoked the three axioms that inner products follow, but using those in this video would only add to the confusion, so I opted for a sloppier (more intuitive) proof instead.
