I wonder if Thunder fans were projecting All-Star levels of play for Jeff Green after his second season, where he averaged 16 points per game for a team playing its first season in OKC. He had been drafted high (fifth overall) and shown substantial improvement from his rookie year to his sophomore year. It would have been reasonable at the time to project big things for him, given that he was basically LeBron Lite and at that point wasn't addicted to Benzos like he is now.

Whatever expectations those early-adapter Thunder fets set on Green, I'm sure they weren't met. For a brief period of time on the Celtics, he was an okay stopgap first option, but he never even got close to "star" level. His whole career his ranged from being vaguely disappointing to being extremely disappointing (thinking his stint with the Magic here). The Benzo addiction is probably part of it, and maybe that heart condition he had is part of it too, but he's been given so many chances on so many different teams ranging from contending teams to tanking teams, so at some point you just have to point at the man himself and say "it was his fault and his fault alone that he never reached his potential".

Green has looked decent for the Wizards and is probably playing the best he's ever played since he was traded away from the Celtics. At age 32, it's too late for him to "turn the corner" and make any All-Star teams, but if he winds down his career as a valuable role-player that fans appreciate, at least his career won't have been a total waste of everyone's time.
