Brandon Lee, an actor and son of Bruce Lee, died on March 31, 1993, at age 28 while filming The Crow in Wilmington, North Carolina. During a scene, a prop gun fired a .44 Magnum bullet that was accidentally lodged in the barrel, striking Lee in the abdomen. The gun was improperly checked, and the dummy round used earlier had dislodged its bullet, which remained in the barrel. When a blank was fired, it propelled the lodged bullet with lethal force. Lee was rushed to New Hanover Regional Medical Center but died during surgery due to massive blood loss and organ damage. The incident was ruled an accident, with no criminal charges filed, though it led to stricter firearm safety protocols in film production.
