The Gaddis – not just a community, but a legacy of faith, migration, and mountain spirit. It’s believed that Lord Shiva once assigned a devotee the duty of serving Manimahesh, and since then, these guardians of the flock have been known as Gaddis.

Every summer, as the snow melts, they move to the highlands of Bharmour, Chamba.
And when winter returns, they descend again - Year after year, like a migrating tradition on foot.

Guided by faith and protected by the mighty Gaddi dogs, these shepherds uphold ancient customs like Shiv Nuala, a devotional celebration of Lord Shiva. Even their weddings echo the divine tale of Shiva and Parvati. Though many Gaddi families have moved to towns like Dharamshala, Palampur, and Kangra, they carry Mahadev in their hearts, no matter where life takes them.
