HOT WHEELS custom: T9700 MINI Cooper S Challenge

Commission customising a Hot Wheels T9700 MINI Cooper S Challenge, produced between 2011 to present.

I was contacted by a chap called Stephen who was looking for a custom diecast of one of his cars. He chose his driving project R56 MINI Cooper S which has a good selection of mechanical and visual upgrades that help to make it stand out from the crowd.

For this project I opted to use Hot Wheels' MINI Cooper S Challenge as a starting template. This casting is based on the Cooper S Challenge race car that was factory prepared by BMW Motorsport. However, aside from the rather basic looking roof mounted wing, it looked virtually identical to Stephen's car. So I hacked off the cast wing, replaced it with my own styrene spoiler, added in the roof rails of Stephen's car, gave it a matching set of wheels, along with a host of other touches.

The Hot Wheels model has been in production sporadically since 2011, while the R56 generation MINI it is based on was built between 2006 and 2013.
