In this scene, we are along the Lakeside looking out over an area covered with the American Lotus(Nelumbo lutea), often confused with the Water Lily. It took several attempts to make a positive identification because the plants have several of the same appearances. In some cases, the names are mistakenly used interchangeably.
The easiest way I understand to tell them apart is from the seed development. Waterlily seeds develop below the surface while the lotus develops above the surface. In many countries, the seeds are roasted and eaten like popcorn.
