Do you have an awesome car or a truck with the most awesome tires and rims? And if you do, do you know if those are covered under your car insurance policy?

Here's usually how the story goes. You take your car or your truck down here to Big O Tires, you spend thousands of dollars making your car or truck look really cool by getting custom rims, custom tires, and then you drive down the road and you look really cool. Life is good.

But then here's what happens. You get in a car accident, those tires, rims, they're all messed up, and come to find out, you're getting a check from the insurance company as if all you had were stock everything. People get really upset because they want to look really cool when they drive down the road.

So here's my advice to you today. If you spend thousands of dollars on anything custom wheels, you need to make sure that you call your insurance company. Let them know and make sure that they notate that and that you can add on an extra endorsement to cover those things, so in the event of a covered loss, you can get your money and come back down here to Big O and replace those tires and rims so that you can roll down the road looking really cool and really awesome.

So don't just assume that these things are covered. Most insurance policies do not cover them. The ones that do may give you an extra $500 for custom rims and tires, but that's it. That's really not going to cover anything. So make sure you call your insurance agent. Make sure you're covered. No one likes any surprises.
