A lot went on in St. Anne's Indian Residential School in Fort Albany (a Canadian school for Aboriginal children.) Its students were subject to secret nutritional and health experiments by the Canadian government. They were also subject to physical and sexual abuse by staff, including child rape and an electric shock treatment program. Sadly, St. Anne's was not the only school where such experimental and physical abuses were perpetrated.

Stephen Harper publically apologized for the residential school policy (which removed Aboriginal children from their families and indoctrinated them into government-ordered boarding schools) and acknowledged that it "has taken extraordinary courage for the thousands of survivors that have come forward to speak publicly about the abuse they suffered." But talk is cheap. Harper has kept the matter of health experiments silent by withholding documents crucial to the abuses. In January, an Ontario Court ordered the Harper Government to turn over all residential school archival documents to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. They are still waiting.

What part of this makes you feel proud to be Canadian? Like a bad apple, Canada looks healthy on the outside, but on the inside it's rotten to the core. Child abuse is the last thing that anyone, especially the government, should be covering.

Children of any culture deserve better, and as Canadians we should demand justice for all.
