New Aerated Static Pile for Compost

Описание к видео New Aerated Static Pile for Compost

Spring compost is finally sifted and ready for sale. Now to rebuild the ASP for next spring's compost.

Some changes in this setup:
--Pallet walls instead of straw (I believe straw attracted mice)
--Different pipes with slots instead of holes (to prevent a mouse metropolis)
--Different blower

Mice were a problem. I vacuumed out the pipes once when the pile was rebuilt. (FYI a Shop Vac will suck up a live mouse.) But I think that only made them more determined and/or angrier because this last fall I discovered that the entire pipe system including blower box was packed with their furnishings.

The blower has metal anti-mouse mesh. The slots are less than 1/4" wide. No more straw. Cats on duty. I don't know what else to do. Wait and see.

This different blower is a relic from an old furnace. (Save everything and all the things!!) The date on it is 1965, and it is certainly more powerful than my previous blower. I have new timers ordered for a more precise on/off time frame.

This has a good bed of fresh wood chips which will make some very great ASP airflow.
