How 5G works | 5G explained | All about 5G

This video covers all about 5g technology. What is 5g and how 5g technology works.
5g stands for the fifth generation of wireless technology, that started with 1g in 1979.
1g gave us the capability to talk on phone wirelessly, 2g enable messaging, 3g enabled use of internet on phones and 4g gave us features like HD video calling, fast internet speeds and so on.

Wireless technology uses electromagnetic waves to transfer data and frequency of a wave plays an important role in this data transfer process.Waves with more frequency can carry more data with high speeds.

4g vs 5g technology
4g generally uses a frequency range from 2Ghz to 8Ghz. However, 5g can use frequencies higher than 50Ghz, therefore it is capable of providing many benefits like blazing fast internet speeds, enabling operation of driverless cars, real time data transfer, internet of things and so on. These uses of 5g technology clearly explain what does 5g mean for the future and why is 5g better than 4g when it comes to technological development.

Till now there are three kinds of 5g networks available
- Low Band 5g
- Mid Band 5g
- High Band 5g
Low band provides better coverage as it can use the existing 4g infrastructure. However, its data transfer speeds are similar to 4g or a bit more than that.
Mid band provides better speeds but lower coverage.
High band provides the signature 5g speeds of 100Gbps that everyone is talking about but their range is very poor. High speed data transfer is achieved by using mmWaves for data transfer. These waves have mindbogglingly high speeds but very bad range (around 500m from broadcasting tower), as they can be absorbed by surrounding things like buildings, trees etc.

To overcome these shortcomings 5g uses the following technologies:
- Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO)
Is this multiple antennas are installed on the broadcasting tower that provides the better capacity to process input and output signals (simultaneously).
- Beam Forming
With this technology the signal could be directly transmitted to the receiver, which reduces transmission losses.
- Full Duplex Technology
With the help of this technology 5g could send and receive signals at the same frequency decreasing the response time.

Besides it would also require installation of many small mini towers in an area to keep a strong network connection.
Due to these special requirements , it would take some time (maybe years!) for 5g to be completely implemented.

One question that arises again and again is "Is 5g harmful ? "
To answer this, we must understand Ionizing and Non-ionizing Radiations first.
Ionizing radiations like X-rays and Gamma rays are found in radioactive materials. Due to their very high energy content, they can cause cell mutations or cancer in human beings. However 5g uses non-ionizing radiations like Radiowaves and Microwaves. Till now it has not shown sign of danger to human beings , but research on this is currently underway and we can get more concrete information in future.

Hope this helped you understand how is 5 g network works and what does 5g mean for the future .
