The Sinking of the Pere Marquette 18 Car Ferry

Описание к видео The Sinking of the Pere Marquette 18 Car Ferry

Pere Marquette 18 was a Railroad Car Ferry that operated on Lake Michigan for the Pere Marquette Railway. She was the flagship of their fleet of car ferries plying the lake from Ludington, Michigan to ports in Kewaunee, Manitowoc, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During the summer seasons the Pere Marquette 18 was chartered out for passenger excursions originating in Chicago. While out in this trade, she earned the title of the "world's greatest excursion steamer" due to her passenger accommodations. On September 8, 1910, Pere Marquette 18 was making her first run as a car ferry after the summer excursion season had ended when she started taking on water mysteriously. In the early morning of September 9th, she plunged to the depths of Lake Michigan.
