One of the ways to determine what the effects of higher altitude will do to your packages or specimen is to subject your specimen to a similar environment by simulating the increase in altitude, holding the packages at a specific altitude, and decreasing that altitude. This ascending, holding, and descending will closely simulate the pressure change your packages will undergo during an airplane flight.
This Altitude Simulation Package Testing System adheres to the ASTM D6653 / D6653M – 13: Standard Test Methods for Determining the Effects of High Altitude on Packaging Systems by Vacuum Method Test Protocol.
Since we know that altitude is a function of absolute pressure, all we need to perform an altitude simulation test is a vacuum chamber, a vacuum pump, and a vacuum controller all fully assembled into a altitude simulation system.
This particular Altitude Simulation Package Testing system will allow you to perform a test cycle by allowing you to set the target absolute pressure and the hold or dwell time after which your cycle will be complete and the chamber will vent. For example, if you are looking to reach an absolute pressure of 300 Torr and hold it there for ten minutes before venting it, this system will allow you to do that.
Furthermore, you can also set the rate of ASCEND and DESCEND by simply enabling it and setting the rate in feet per second. This is critical as the ASTM D6653 Test Protocol calls for a rate of ascend/descend of 1000 feet every 30 to 60 seconds.
Finally, you also have the option to manually control your Vacuum Pump, Vacuum Valve, and Venting Valve by toggling ON or OFF. ON for a valve means CLOSED(Engaged), OFF for a valve means OPEN (Disengaged)
This is a complete turn-key vacuum system. It is fully optimized for cost and performance. We have sourced the most appropriate vacuum pump, connection hardware, filters, and other equipment to enable you to perform your altitude simulation test without having to source your parts for several different suppliers and having to spend time putting it together all yourself. Our goal is to provide you with a great tool to enable you to do the best job that you can do so that you don’t have to spend the time (and resources) building or sourcing your own DIY vacuum altitude control system.
Keep in mind that we offer acrylic and stainless steel vacuum chamber that are either cubed or cylindrical in various sizes ranging from 10 inch to 24 inch internal dimensions. We also offer various vacuum pumps such as Rotary Vane Vacuum Pump, Oil Free Piston Pump, and Venturi Vacuum Pump – each of these pumps has its own advantages and disadvantages. We do place this complete system onto a table frame structure with lockable swivel casters reason being is that the larger vacuum chambers tend to be quite heavy (250 lbs or more). Therefore, placing them onto lockable swivel casters will enable you keep the vacuum chamber, pump, and controller combine and move this system easily across your facility.
Please remember that we do offer vacuum chamber customization where you can add USB, D-SUB, Ethernet, Wire, Thermocouple, or anything else feedthroughs. These feedthroughs will allow you to run electrical signals, gasses, liquids, etc.. from the outside of the vacuum chamber to the inside of the vacuum chamber without compromising the vacuum. This comes especially handy when you are performing electrical discharge tests on your electronic equipment when you have to power your electronic device from the outside while simulating a certain altitude.
