Unreal 2: The Awakening (PC) Gameplay | 4K

I just picked up Unreal 2 on the PC recently. I previously owned it on the Xbox, but I thought the jankiness of the combat in the Xbox version was due to the port job. Welp, it turns out that it's just the way the game plays. I haven't played particularly far into the game on either the Xbox or PC, but I can definitely tell this was a disappointing sequel to the original Unreal.

I'm not entirely sure what happened here, but Unreal 2 is definitely an extremely poor follow-up to the amazing original. That being said, it's not horrible. It's playable, but, from the little I have played of it, it was sub-par even for the time it was released. I don't hate it, but it took the Unreal name and made it into a generic sci-fi shooter with brain-dead enemy AI opponents with a generic, uninspired arsenal of weapons. The PC version is completely single player. There was no online play available, whereas, even the original Xbox version had online. I know that, in light of UT 2003 and UT 2004 existing, adding online in Unreal 2 would have been a bit redundant, but it still seems like huge mistake not to add even a basic online mode to the game like the Xbox port had.

It's unfortunate that we will probably never see another single player or multiplayer Unreal game and it's sad that single-player Unreal went out with such a whimper. Again, not the worst FPS I've ever played, but it could have and should have been so much better.
