5 Hidden Gems That Dazzled Us At EGX 2019

We had a lot of fun playing games (and painting them in Microsoft Paint) on the live stage at EGX 2019, but we also had a lot of fun playing some of the indie games on the show floor. We took note of a few stand-out favourites that Astrid will be talking to you about today. Oh, and why not check out our Rock Paper Shotgun Displate store, to help support the channel. The first of our favourite EGX indies was Roki. It’s an adventure game by Polygon Treehouse where you’re a girl lost in a mysterious and mythological world. There are trolls, crows, and a tree with lots of eyes. Our Roki impressions are pretty strong, and it’s one that we’ll be following closely.

You’ll have to see some Tony Slopes gameplay before you’ll believe it. It’s a snowboarding racer, but instead of snowboards, you ride an assortment of vehicles that includes a bath, a toilet, and a great massive whale. What are our Tony Slopes impressions? That it’s a really bloody good time, and we can’t wait to see how it progresses.

Our Table Manners impressions are that it’s way too painfully similar to actual Tinder dates in real life, but in a good way. Table Manners gameplay involves you swiping left and/or right on potential dates, and then taking them out to a restaurant to pour them wine, order them food, and shake salt onto their chips with Surgeon Simulator style controls.

Kung Fu Jesus is… Well, take a look at this Kung Fu Jesus gameplay. It’s drug-induced fighting game experience made by Kung Fu Jesus himself, that sees you embroiled in a criminal underworld, alternate universes, and lots of kicking and punching. Astrid’s Kung Fu Jesus impressions are that she doesn’t know if she likes it or not, but that it’s nonetheless deeply fascinating to her.

Welcome To Elk is beautiful and harrowing all at once. In this Welcome To Elk gameplay, you’ll see a minigame where you stick facial feature cut-outs on balloons, one where you pour a glass of beer, and one where you sing a song to usher your friend into the afterlife. Our Welcome To Elk impressions are that it’s emotionally brutal, but endlessly captivating.
