The Prime Minister of France is the head of state and the cabinet. They lay out the main policies of the country, and work with the monarch and legislature to run the government successfully. Although the French monarchs had appointed Prime Ministers as political advisors since the 1500s, the modern conception of the office began in 1790 when in that year the French Constitution of 1790 was agreed upon by King Louis XVI and revolutionary leaders. The Prime Minister is appointed by the reigning monarch, and approved upon by the Chamber of Deputies. There are no official terms, and the Prime Minister remains in office until death, resignation, or dismissal by the monarch.
