I have lived my life as a guy for 25 years. I knew deep inside who I really was, but it took me a while to accept and celebrate myself as a transwoman. There were significant personal and professional changes in my life around this time. I lost my father when I was 25 and though it shook my world it was only then that I could take the reins of my own life. I switched from being a manager to a freelance tattoo artist while figuring my identity out.

I have never been an artistic child, but I loved watching artists draw tattoos on others. So, I took a course and practised tirelessly to gain this skill. And that has been the best decision of my life. As a transwoman, working in a tattoo artist studio, I have faced no discrimination in my workspace. Rather, this studio became a safe place for me where I could be who I really am with no fear of judgment. My colleagues have always been very supportive of me, even when I came out. They didn't care what I wore, or how I looked, everyone just easily accepted me as I am.

I came out in my workplace before my mother. I used to leave my house dressed as a guy and then change in the studio itself with makeup and everything. In the evening too, I had to change and go back to being dressed as a guy. I did this for about 4 years and it was a really difficult time for me. But I am so thankful to everyone in the studio for allowing me to be who I am and supporting me throughout my journey.

There are still some challenges working with clients, but it's rare and when something happens, I have the most amazing and supportive people to protect me. And now, I love who I am while doing what I love.
