Thornton Lakes - Washington State

Hiking to Thornton Lakes offers a memorable adventure through some of Washington's most picturesque landscapes. The lakes are known for their stunning crystal-clear turquoise waters, surrounded by massive, towering cliffs. There is a maintained trail to the outflow of lower Thornton Lake, but from there on it is basically a scramble to the upper lakes. In this video, we take the maintained trail to lower Thornton Lakes and then venture on to the middle and upper lakes. From the lower lake on, the route is both rugged and remote, requiring navigation and scrambling skills. There is a faint route most of the way to the middle lake, but from there on you must navigate a labyrinth of massive scree/boulder fields and sloping slab rock. The reward for your efforts is the superior, awe-inspiring beauty of upper Thornton Lake. Thornton Lakes is a must-do for all true outdoor enthusiasts seeking absolutely stunning natural beauty and solitude in the North Cascades.
