The NPV profile allows you to visualize the relationship between the cost of capital and NPV. This is important in comparing two mutually exclusive projects using IRR. Which project is better depends on the cost of capital and the rate where the two are equal is known as the crossover rate. It also allows you to evaluate a project with nonconventional cash flows.
