I tried everything to get it to charge or power on so I could save my data but it just wasn't working. It appears that you need to disconnect the battery to allow the motherboard's residual energy to dissipate, then you can charge your battery again and be back on track. To completely replace the battery, just remove the battery screws and swap components.
