Des Moines has always held a special place in my heart. I came here in 2014, not knowing anyone here. But I soon found, that the people who live here treat you like family, the term "Iowa Nice" really applies! When most people think of Iowa I think it's a picture of rows of corn, but Central Iowa is not all cornfields! If you leave the downtown area, you will still be amazed by the beauty though. You can go to a park and feel like it's an extension of your backyard, it's not a crowded place by any means. There may not be as much to do in Des Moines as in a big city, but I think that's what it has going for it! You can use the many bike trails to go biking, go fishing or boating at Saylorville, you name it. There may not be segway tours, but you can easily walk the sculpture park, and most of the city is walkable. The craft beer and food is some of the best in the nation, so to sum it up, this is why I am super proud to call DSM home!
