Jim Bowman: Jim’s breakthrough!!! Turned a four-axis ‘circular’ persimmon heartwood candle holder.

Don Smith: Don shows photos from Stewart Furini’s demonstration regarding texturing and painting techniques, a few entries from Don’s club’s smoker competition (including a woodturner and his lathe, a locomotive engine, and Don’s own Father Christmas smoker), and closes with his decorated sycamore bowl and ash box, using texturing tools and various Sanderson paints.

Toby Bouder: Discussion and photos of headstock shelf for quick access to oft-used tools, plus a teaser of a forthcoming slide show of how Toby is processing a large maple burl.

Ken Vasko: A question to the attendees; how to safely store seven lathes for an extended period of time in an unconditioned barn, followed by an extended discussion of steps to prevent rust…

All: To embellish or not to embellish??? Another extended discussion, this time about who embellishes, why embellish, what is embellishment, and the progression from learning to turn to
embellishing turned work. A few examples by Don Smith show one man’s examples of ‘quick’ embellishment on the rim of a sycamore bowl, and the band on a ‘little hat’ that elevates the aesthetics of the piece.
