A Tour of BC Ferries' Howe Sound Queen. Built in Sorel Quebec in 1964 and originally named Napoleon L, she was bought by BC Ferries in 1971 and was placed on Route 8 between Horseshoe Bay and Snug Cove, Bowen Island. She served primarily as Bowen Island's ferry for the next 20 years when she was replaced by the Queen of Capilano on the route in 1992. After this she replaced the Vesuvius Queen on Route 6 between Crofton and Vesuvius Bay on Salt Spring Island. A route she serves to this day. As originally built, the HSQ only had a small superstructure on one side of the vessel. Not long after being bought and put into service by BC Ferries, her superstructure was raised and expanded to stretch across the width of the vessel giving her full overheight clearance and an expanded passenger cabin. She's also received more minor upgrades over the years such as an awning that spans the stairs between the vehicle and passenger deck, marine evacuation slides, a new set of stairs on her opposite end where there had not been stairs previously, and an upgraded interior. The Howe Sound Queen also has a younger sister ship, the Lucien L, which serves on her former route between Sorel-Tracy and Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola.
