It's not winter yet, but finding great concentrations of river smallmouth to catch this winter start with some legwork right now. November is early enough for them to start aggregating in numbers near or in the places with high water refuge and a current blocking feature where they will spend the next few months. I chose a section of river where I had no prior knowledge of winter habitat to show you the process.
