Some European countries, especially Germany and France, are concerned that China's "Belt and Road" initiative is seeking to link the economies of countries that are part of the Belt and Road initiative to the Chinese economy through increased debts. In fact, the Chinese banks have granted loans that are worth billions of dollars to these countries. There are also concerns that Chinese products will be more competitive at the expense of the European products, in addition to concerns of threatening the European unity. The project summit that was held in China have seen the signing of several cooperation agreements and concluding major deals. A number of countries have also taken part in cooperation agreements that are related to the project.
