However, the way we use that energy is what is our free will. That usage is what creates karma. In that respect we are under the law of karma. But karma that is created by us ourselves. Now, because we created karma in our past life and the law is eternal - that means in this life also we are creating karma.

It is also important to understand why God gave us free will. Firstly, understand that love is not possible without free will. Love is exercised when there is a choice. That is why God has deliberately created Maya. There is scope to choose using free will between Maya and God. The more difficult the choices, the more you need to exercise love. Swami ji gives an interesting question to ponder over - given 5 million $ vs God to choose from - what will you choose? And how about choosing between 5 Billion $ and God?
