Описание к видео Detached Arachnid Leg Still Moving After Separation From Body 🕷☠️

A detached arachnid leg was spotted on the floor of a farmhouse in Italy and for quite a few seconds the leg kept contracting. Apparently, a detached spider (or arachnid) leg moving after the spider's death is a common phenomenon explained by hydraulic pressure and muscle spasms. Spiders use hydraulic pressure to extend their legs, and when they die, the internal pressure fades, causing the legs to curl up. These legs can still twitch or jerk due to lingering muscle spasms.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

Hydraulic System:
Spider legs are primarily extended by hydraulic pressure, not solely by muscles. A fluid (hemolymph) is pumped into the leg, causing it to straighten.

Death and Pressure Loss:
When a spider dies, the pumping of hemolymph stops, and the internal pressure in the legs decreases.

Muscle Spasms:
Even after the hydraulic pressure is lost, muscles in the leg can still contract, causing the leg to twitch or jerk briefly.

"Death Curl":
The legs will often curl inward due to the natural tendency of the muscles to contract, especially when the internal hydraulic pressure is lost.

Why it happens:
The movement of a detached leg after death is a natural consequence of the spider's biology and the loss of internal pressure and the lingering muscle spasms.

But according to one post online “Harvestmen (Opiliones) legs are detachable, and keep moving for a few minutes (although much longer, up to an hour, have been recorded). Many less-informed people think they're spiders, as they're still arachnids fairly similar to spiders in appearance. But Harvestmen aren't spiders, and real spiders don't have this ability.”

We’re not sure what type of Spider or arachnid leg this is…but there looks to be a dismembered body of a beetle to the right…it must have been some fight 🕷🪳☠️
