Doctors in Delhi are raising alarms as air pollution levels swing between the ‘poor’ and ‘severe’ categories.
Medical experts warn that pregnant women, young children, and the elderly are among the most vulnerable groups affected by toxic air.

Dr. Avi Kumar from Fortis Escorts Heart Institute says pregnant women exposed to severe pollution face higher risks of infections, allergies, chronic lung issues, and complications during pregnancy. Children born to such mothers face increased chances of low birth weight, allergies, and developmental delays.

Hospitals across the National Capital Region are witnessing a surge in cases of breathlessness, wheezing, coughing, and pneumonia as PM 2.5 levels breach 400.

Doctors advise residents to avoid outdoor exposure, wear N-95 masks, and use air purifiers at home.
With AQI slipping into the ‘severe’ zone, the Centre has enforced Stage 3 of GRAP, restricting BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel vehicles, halting non-essential construction, and shifting classes up to Class 5 to hybrid mode.
