The significance of India's new Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presided over the grand opening of a new Hindu temple dedicated to deity Lord Ram in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. This delivers on a 35-year promise of his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The $200-million project is expected to feature heavily in this year's general elections. Dr Ronojoy Sen, a senior research fellow from the Institute of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore, explained the significance of the Ram temple and its importance to Mr Modi.
