There are no rules or restrictions as to where you can place a Persian or an Oriental runner. The main criterion is that the space where you are placing the runner needs to be longer than it is wider.

Hallways
Go for a high pile height rug for high-traffic hallways. Go for low pile height for low-traffic hallways and if there is a clearance issue when opening doors leading to the hallway as the door may touch the pile of the rug.

Bedroom
You may use multiple runner rugs around the bed like 3 runner rugs, 1 on each side of the bed and 1 in front of the bed. You can also use 2 runners, 1 on each side of the bed. Lighter colors work best in bedrooms. Choose rugs with floral and herati designs and avoid large, bold patterns like the geometrically designed rugs.

Entrance
Pick a rug that is heavy-duty and has a high pile height like the Bijar, Heriz, Abadeh, and Qashqai.

Kitchen
Placing it in front of the stove or the sink works well. You may also place 2 runners with the kitchen island in between. If you have a longer kitchen, putting a longer runner in the middle of the kitchen will do.

Go for thicker rugs with higher pile height because of the heavy traffic. Also, choose dark colors as stains and spills are most likely to happen.

Home Office
Herati or geometric designs work well in office settings.

Bathroom - Depends on the layout of the bathroom. Shorter runners work well in front of the sink or in the middle of the bathroom. Avoid placing rugs directly in front of the shower. You don't wanna walk onto the rug when you're dripping wet and drip the water all over the rug. Choose low to medium pile height. Also, put the rug outside once in a while to dry the rug and get the humidity build-up out.

Staircases
Long staircases need longer runners which can be seen on Karaja and Hamadan. These type of rug offers over 20' runners. Sarouk and Mehraban offers shorter runners.
