香港雖是一個現代化的都市，卻蘊藏了獨特地質環境和具考古價值的史前文化。迄今為止，我們已發現逾百處史前文化遺址和九幅史前石刻。除了從歷史角度研究外，亦可透過分析遺址的地質結構，例如岩石的分布及特性，為考究史前文化提供更多「證據」。是次講座會從地質角度了解香港石器時代的文化發展。究竟石刻圖紋與岩石性質有何關係？甚麼岩石最適合用以製作石器工具？石材的來源地在哪裏？石製工具和飾物對經濟及文化帶來甚麼影響？香港哪裏曾是史前石器工場？講者將與你逐一探討。

Hong Kong Geologist's View on Local Prehistoric Artefacts

Although Hong Kong is a modern city, it contains a unique geological environment and prehistoric archaeological heritage. Up to now, we have discovered more than 100 prehistoric heritage sites and nine prehistoric rock carvings. In addition to studying from a historical perspective, analysis of geological structure of the site, such as distribution and characteristics of rocks, can also provide further "evidence" for investigating prehistoric culture. This lecture will introduce Hong Kong's cultural development during the Stone Age from a geological point of view. What is the relationship between the patterns of stone carvings and the properties of rocks? Which type of rock is most suitable for making stone tools? Where is the origin of the stones? What are the impacts of stone tools and ornaments on the economy and culture? Which location in Hong Kong was previously an archaeological site for stone tools production? The speaker will discuss these issues with you one by one.
