Dipping the Ceramics I Sgraffito Cups in Clear Glaze and Making Patties for Glaze Firing

This is the fifth video in a series of videos for my Ceramics I Students pinch cup exercise. In this video, I am showing the students how they will be dip glazing their sgraffito cups in our clear glaze.

DUE TO THE PANDEMIC: I am using a cone 6 stoneware clay (Standard 153) and a coyote cone 6 stoneware clear glaze- unlike the other videos, where I used earthenware clay. I am trying to keep our clay situation more simple for the kids that are taking their projects home during quarantine. The underglazes are all Amaco Velvet Underglazes.

I made this video for my Ceramics I students at Mason High School. This is the first exercise (non-graded) that the kids do in clay for their semester Ceramics I class. They are learning and building skills they will use throughout the semester. They learn pinching, cleaning, underglazing, sgraffito carving, majolica glazing, and dip glazing for this exercise.

This video begins where the last one left off. The pinch pots are now leatherhard bisque fired, with three to five layers of underglaze. We are using Coyote Clear cone 6 glaze
