Описание к видео Repair cracked Pentair Pool filter lid

My attempt at repairing a fiberglass Pentair pool filter lid (Part 170022). Pentair FNSP60 lid.

Following the great Texas blizzard of 2021, I discovered that ice had caused the filter lid on my Pentair FNSP60 (Pentair 180009 FNS Plus 60 SQ FT) to crack around its entire circumference. I could not find the replacement part anywhere, so I considered trying to repair it. I searched Youtube and found a few videos about what to do with a cracked filter lids. The overwhelming opinion was that any attempt at repairing the part would result in immediate death...or at least utter destruction of any surrounding structures or personal property. I was going to give up and just wait on the backorder for a new lid to be filled. But, my lack of patience got the better of me. I made a video to document my results.

Spoiler alert.....if you are seeing this video, then I did NOT die.

Disclaimer: Pool filter systems work under high pressure and have the potential to cause severe injury. I do NOT recommend to anyone that they attempt to repair cracked or broken parts on their own filter equipment. This video is simply a recording of my results.

My Steps:
1. Turned off the power to the filter system. Utilized appropriate safety equipment (gloves, goggles, mask). And worked in well-ventilated spaces.
2. Removed the Tension control clamp. Cleaned the broken edges of the filter lid with acetone and allowed to air dry.
3. Aligned the two broken pieces of filter lid so that it seated correctly. Marked the fracture line with an indelible marker so that the pieces could be realigned after adhesive was applied.
4. In a disposable plastic container, I mixed JB Original Cold Weld two-part epoxy according to directions.
5. I applied the JB Weld mixture to the broken edge of the filter lid, then matched the two broken pieces together. I secured the pieces in place using duct tape. I then attached a 25 pound weight to compress the pieces together for 24 hours while the adhesive set.
6. I fashioned eight strips of metal (two inches in length each) to serve as braces and to provide additional structural support. I guess any metal material could be used, but I chose galvanized roof hangers because it is easy to work with and already has holes drilled in it. I placed the strips of metal perpendicular across the fracture line on the broken filter lid pieces. Utilizing small wood screws, I anchored one end of each of the eight metal strips to the filter lid. I then mixed additional JB Weld and applied it to the filter lid where each metal strap crossed the fracture. I then used a screw to anchor the unattached ends of the metal strips to the filter lid. Finally, I applied an additional layer of JB Weld on top of each support strap. I allowed the the adhesive several hours to set.
7. Probably overkill, but as a final step, I applied a layer of Flex Seal to the top of the repair.
8. I returned the repaired lid to my filter system and secured it appropriately.
9. I then powered on the filter system (standing at the ready to shut it down if it failed). The lid actually held together under pressure. Unfortunately, I discovered that the ice had damaged several other components in the filter system that now also need to be replaced... Such is my luck!
