The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has published a draft of New Drugs, Medical Devices, and Cosmetics Bill, 2022 in July, 2022 with the intention of reviewing, replacing, and modernising the old Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

As the new regulations have not yet been introduced, the bill specifies that the laws outlined in the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the Rules made thereunder viz., Drugs Act, 1945, Medical Devices Rules, 2017 & Cosmetics Rules, 2020 shall continue to be in effect.

The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 will no longer be in force, once the new Rules are put into effect.
